Thank you very much Margaret. I was almost there but the note was so different from most records I was really unsure. I have subsequently found the marriage of the Rosa Maria de Piedade you mentioned. It was in 1808 the same year as the note so likely was the catalyst for the "justification". I also found baptisms for four children of Antonio and Rosa Maria between 1763 and 1772, including a Rosa in 1772 that I suspect is Rosa Maria de Piedade. All of these records say "Antonio...e sua mulher Rosa Maria"
