Elizabeth

Cardoza is my husband’s surname. That branch of his family was from Terceira. 
If you go back a couple of generations to the Azores, you can see that the 
surname for a while was Esteves. His own grandfather used several surnames 
(Cardoza, Souza, Esteves, and various combinations) until he settled on Cardoza 
he immigrated to the U.S. The Cardoza/Cardoso part was from a maternal line. 
Unfortunately, and to our dismay, you can NOT follow a surname line by name 
only. The naming practices of the Azores are such that they don’t necessarily 
take their father’s surname for each generation. In fact, that is fairly
