The Portable Document Format (PDF) files at
<http://www.tanach.us/PDFFiles>
contain errors in the display of shuruq vowels (Unicode VAV DAGESH).
The dagesh is usually absorbed into the vav, leaving the vav without
vowel markings, i.e Gen 19:33. The presence of the dagesh within the vav
can be observed at 500% magnification, indicating a rendering problem.
The PDF files are based on the Frank Ruehl CLM TrueType font. This font
renders correctly in web displays on all operating systems so the
problem appears to be only in the PDF rendering. Eliminating text
justification in the PDF files doesn't fix the problem. Suggestions
(off-list) for an alternative free Unicode Hebrew TrueType font would be
appreciated. (The SBL Hebrew font does not render correctly in the PDF
files, presumably because it's in OpenType format.)
Comments (off-list) on whether the current PDF files should be removed
from the site would also be appreciated.
