Paul Vincent Woodroffe drew these illustrations with such delicacy and humor, that children would take the book to bed with them to continue exploring the magic of joining words, music, and illustrations into a delightfully pleasing composition of the whole.He drew the illustrations between 1906 and 1907 though the publication and release were delayed by T.C. & E.C. Jack in London and Frederick A. Stocks in New York until 1912. Woodroffe , born in India immigrated to England at an early age and attended the famed London's Slade School of Art. Nursery Songs, was Woodroffe's third collaboration with Joseph Moorat but the first to be published in color and is the best known of Woodroffe's eight illustrated works. The artist's delicate colorations are reminiscent of stain glass windows. This is a 1980 reprint of the original 1912 publication. This hardcover volume is like new showing only the most extremely mild shelfwear. Pages are pristine. Piano scoring for the songs is at basic intermediate level of difficulty.
