Hi, A while ago someone posted a link to a file with place names and longitude and latitude for all places in the UK, which (for the prototype that I made related to this at http://backstage.min-data.co.uk/geotagged/ ) I then queried the database for all the words that seemed like places in the news article (That was done by basically working out which words start with a capital letter) and got a list of places with longitude and latitude that could be relevant. It then did some complicated stuff to work out exactly where to plot it.. It doesn't use the Google Maps API at the moment, but I have decided to stop working on it and work on a more local thing, which will incorporate that, and will use the API. Hope that helps, Duncan Simon Corless wrote: Related to this, does anyone know how to go about geocoding place names. I can't really see how you would take a place from the news and plot it. i.e. mapping the news. |
