Alas, no go. I just grabbed it today, edited the lib line as follows to 
match my CentOS5 BackupPC package layout:

use lib "/usr/lib";

I'm still seeing a single unrecognized "unix" node under each backup entry, 
like this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp]# ls -l BackupPC/balrog/1537
total 0
?--------- ? ? ? ?            ? unix
