yes. you can configure how long to keep old backups, either on a system-wide
or a per-host basis. (tho you can't do it at the individual file level).

that's what a series of historical backups is all about. :)

Install debian, install backuppc, take a look at the config file, it's
pretty self-explanatory and easy to learn.
