The ssh setup was covered in the howto you mentioned earlier.
You can completely turn off firewalling with the command
  service iptables stop
After making sure that ssh works, you may want to re-enable
the firewall but allow icmp and port 22 through.  There
should be a tool somewhere in the menu to adjust it
(system/security, I think).
