Hmmm.  I have several users, who usually leave their programs up and running
overnight.  I don't see why there should be an issue just copying the locked
files.  If I were changing them, I see what you mean.  Is there a way to
disable the checksumming?  That would possibly fix the QB errors.

Windows defaults to locking files that are open.  Can you make sure
that all applications are closed on all machines that use this server?
