This is more to share an experience and give a heads up.
I have several clients using cygwin & rsync with BackupPC. The latest round of Windows security updates causes cygrunsrv to utilize 100% cpu during their installation.
I have seen this reported on the Cygwin mailing list as well. Stopping ALL services using cygrunsrv before installing these updates seems to allow their installation to complete. Restarting the cygwin-based services afterward does not seem to cause any ill effects.
Hopefully this information can save someone the headaches I went through trying to figure this out.
