That's what I do and it works fine (as long as you don't mind the speed issues).
However, I think you need to make sure you don't have any firewalls blocking your path. Also, be careful with netbios lookups (nmblookup). In this case, it's a broadcast and shouldn't be routed. Either use WINS or a static IP. - Wade -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of sergio Sent: Thursday, November 17, 2005 9:28 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [BackupPC-users] backing up windows 2000 server using smb.. i have decided that maybe i should try smb instead of rsync when backing up my server, as i am having some problems with rsync.. i just need to know if this setup will work.. i am putting the backuppc server offsite, across town.. if the server is across town, behind a router, and the server that we want to back up is in our building, behind a router.. can smb work across the routers? i have not thought about it fully, but i remember having some problems doing something similar to this back in the day.. any help is appreciated.. thanks! -- ___ sergio t. ruiz red red design 419.207.3927 www.redreddesign.com ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the JBoss Inc.
