I have had BackupPC in testing setup for about a month now, and it has
worked very well this far. I have just had a few minor gliches, mostly
configuration issues with rsync and Windows XP Home Edition. I am very
happy with it!
Last week a user mounted a Samba-share on a Linux-box, and BackupPC
backed up this remote share. I don't know if it did this on purpose or
if I have some wrong configuration, and I couldn't find anything about
this in the docs. What I would like, is for BackupPC to ignore any
filesystem that is not local to the machine. In particular, any
filesystem that is not on a physical block device, such as a
harddrive. Especially, I would like it to ignore network filesystems. Is
this possible?
All of our backup clients are running rsyncd on either Linux, Solaris or
Windows XP. I suppose this may be an rsync-related question. In the
rsync manual these options are mentioned:
-D, --devices This option causes rsync to transfer character and
block device information to the remote system to
recreate these devices. This option is only
available to the super-user.
-x, --one-file-system This tells rsync not to cross filesystem
boundaries when recursing. This is useful for
transferring the contents of only one filesystem.
Is the --devices option relevant to my problem, and can BackupPC make
use of this information? Also, I am not sure if the --one-file-system
option is what I want. I have for example configured all of the
*nix-machines to supply only one rsync module, "/", which is of course
the root filesystem. I guess I might provide one module for each mounted
filesystem, but that wouldn't that break the backed up file system
structure?
