        I have tried that, with compression set to 0, processor usage still sits at 100% on both cores, and the bandwidth usage is sitting at 2MB/s....

Cpu high load suggests to me that network bandwith is not the bottleneck.
You may try reducing cpu load by reducing (turning off ?) compression.
