BackupPC has been humming along happily now for about a year. Several weeks ago, I started getting messages about a system not being backed up. My problem only exists on one machine.
The machine is using rsync-2.6.8-1.fc3.rf. (Yes, it's FC3, but it has to have the 2.4 kernel.) CheckHostAlive: returning 0.451 started full dump, share=/ Running: /usr/bin/ssh -l backuser bell nice -n 19 sudo /usr/bin/rsync --server --sender --numeric-ids --perms --owner --group --devices --links --times --block-size=2048 --recursive --exclude=/proc --exclude=/SWAP --exclude=/.journal --exclude=/home --ignore-times . / Xfer PIDs are now 31715 xferPids 31715 Got remote protocol 29 overflow: flags=0x68 l1=101 l2=778204528, lastname=var/gdm/.gdmfifo overflow: flags=0x65 l1=120 l2=1819307361, lastname=var/gdm/.gdmfifo overflow: flags=0x65 l1=46 l2=980250467, lastname=var/gdm/.gdmfifo fileListReceive() failed Done: 0 files, 0 bytes Got fatal error during xfer (fileListReceive failed) I switched to runlevel 3 and ran it again, but it failed with a similar message. It seems that all of the files that are causing problems are sockets. Any hints?
