recently i had a problem where backuppc didn't start after a reboot.
when i finally noticed (since usually it runs so well, i sometimes
forget to check), it turned out that somehow the log/status.pl file
was empty, and this was causing an error on startup. removing the
file entirely allowed things to proceed as usual.

this is easy to reproduce by replacing status.pl with an empty
file. (i seem to be running 2.1.0.)
