Ah, NOW you tell me :) Actually I just wrote a script that takes care of most of it. I can run it from the server and it will ... * Check that rsync and sudo exist on the client * Create the (low UID) rsynbackup user, & ~.ssh directory * Install the authorized_keys2 file * chown and chmod ~/rsyncbackup/.ssh * Gives you a y/n choice of appending the needed string to /etc/sudoers, (though it warns you and runs visudo -c afterwards) It takes two parameters, i.e the hostname, and the name of a file that you want installed as the rsynbackup user's authorized_keys2 file. Whenever I add a new system to backup I plan to make a copy of backuppc's id_dsa.pub (naming it like "hostname_ak2"), prepend my desired restrictions and rsync command to it, and run my script specifying that file. More or less like this ... bpc_addcleint hostname hostname_ak2 The caveat is that I need to be able to ssh as root to the remote box, and I have to type the root password 4 times, which is a terrible kludge but still much faster than setting it up by hand. I'm no shell scripter but it seems to work, and should be easily tweakable. If you or anyone else is interested in it I can throw it out on the web someplace. -Nathan ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
