I recently was installing a new Ubuntu install on my backup server. I'd setup my previous backuppc config to have [4, 0, 4, 0, 0, 2] as my KeepCnt (so I'd have some old backups, spaced out a bit).
However, the Ubuntu config had a number of differences in paths, so I
couldn't just drop in my old config. I started with the Ubuntu one and
moved forward. It turns out however that their KeepCnt defaulted to
'1'. By the time I'd noticed this it had scouraged my backups down to
'1' for most servers. I'd only be running backuppc for a couple of
months (on average 6 full backups for each host), and didn't *really*
need those backups.
However, it would be really nice if the cleanup process saw such huge
discrepacy between current policy, and what was in the archive, it would
freak out and refuse to delete the backups. I'm sure someone else with
more sensitive data than mine might get bitten by this.
Just a suggestion on how to make this great piece of software even
better. Thanks for such a great software package.
