Possibly during the "link" phase after a successful backup.
In my limited experience, there are a couple of things to consider: 1) It might be an advantage to scan with clam simple because it is different to the AV on your client machines, and therefore will detect a different set of virii. 2) On my windows XP machine with Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2007, it 'seems' to scan *every* file during the backup anyway, because rsync will open the file to calculate the checksum, and NAV does on-access scanning. I imagine this is the same for other AV products. If anyone can confirm/deny this happens, or advise how it can be avoided, I would appreciate it. 3) To scan on the backuppc server, you would need to uncompress them and remove the backuppc specific encoding, or teach your virus scanner how to decompress these types of files. Otherwise it will likely miss most infections anyway. Just a couple of thoughts on the matter.
