I don't mind the network being used. I do mind, however, having a few
Windows machines that can potentially have 10-15GB of data each
sending such giant globs of data over the network when all that's
changed is 15Mb. My understanding was that something like rsync
wouldn't send the whole thing over even on a full backup. Am I wrong?

It doesn't seem to me that I could call this "using" the network.
Especially that some of these are laptops with wireless connection to
the network. You think 1 night is enough to transfer 40GB over the
wireless network? I doubt it... Even if it is, I might be up late
working and get affected by such traffic... However, again, the
biggest reason is really the fact that all of this is a waste of the
networking resources when all you need is 15Mb transfer total.
