Don't know why but today it have another point of viw ;-) I try to backup WindowsXP as well as Vista to an Linux server. I use backuppc 3.1.0 as backup-server (Debian, ext3), cygwin as client environment and rsyncd for the transport. The backup seems to work well but the restore not. The restored files get "NT-Authority/System" as new owner, independend from their old owner or if the file not exist before restore. The rsync arguments by backup (extracted from backuppc logfile): Sending args: --server --sender --numeric-ids --perms --owner --group -D --links --hard-links --times --block-size=2048 --recursive --one-file-system --bwlimit=512 The rsync logfile, extracted from backuppc logfile: Connected to module C Sending args: --server --sender --numeric-ids --perms --super --owner --group -D --links --hard-links --times --block-size=2048 --recursive --one-file-system --bwlimit=512 -vv --ignore-times pool 700 1003/513 47 etc/account.sav where 1003/513 are exact the user/group of this file. The rsync logfile from restore (extracted from backuppc logfile): Sending args: --server --numeric-ids --perms --super --owner --group -D --links --hard-links --times --block-size=2048 --relative --ignore-times --recursive Sending /etc/account.sav (remote=/account.sav) type = 0 restore 700 1003/513 47 /etc/account.sav Done: 1 files, 47 bytes So backuppc knows right about the file owner. Nevertheless windows shows NT-Authority/System as file owner. Also ls -anlh (within cygwin) displays 18/544 as file owner and not 1003/513. It seems that rsyncd have a problem to restore the correct uid/gid. My /etc/passwd seems to be correct: SYSTEM:*:18:544:,S-1-5-18:: LocalService:*:19:544:U-NT AUTHORITY\LocalService,S-1-5-19:: NetworkService:*:20:544:U-NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService,S-1-5-20:: Administratoren:*:544:544:,S-1-5-32-544:: Administrator:unused_by_nt/2000/xp:500:513:U-HOSTXP\Administrator,S-1-5-21-1606980848-1532298954-1801674531-500:/home/Administrator:/bin/bash Gast:unused_by_nt/2000/xp:501:513:U-HOSTXP\Gast,S-1-5-21-1606980848-1532298954-1801674531-501:/home/Gast:/bin/bash Hilfeassistent:unused_by_nt/2000/xp:1000:513:Hilfeassistentenkonto für den Remotedesktop,U-HOSTXP\Hilfeassistent,S-1-5-21-1606980848-1532298954-1801674531-1000:/home/Hilfeassistent:/bin/bash meyer:unused_by_nt/2000/xp:1003:513:meyer,U-HOSTXP\meyer,S-1-5-21-1606980848-1532298954-1801674531-1003:/home/meyer:/bin/bash SUPPORT_388945a0:unused_by_nt/2000/xp:1002:513:CN=Microsoft Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US,U-HOSTXP\SUPPORT_388945a0,S-1-5-21-1606980848-1532298954-1801674531-1002:/home/SUPPORT_388945a0:/bin/bash and my /etc/group too: SYSTEM:S-1-5-18:18: Kein:S-1-5-21-1606980848-1532298954-1801674531-513:513: Administratoren:S-1-5-32-544:544: Benutzer:S-1-5-32-545:545: Gäste:S-1-5-32-546:546: Hauptbenutzer:S-1-5-32-547:547: Netzwerkkonfigurations-Operatoren:S-1-5-32-556:556: Remotedesktopbenutzer:S-1-5-32-555:555: Replikations-Operator:S-1-5-32-552:552: Sicherungs-Operatoren:S-1-5-32-551:551: Hilfedienstgruppe:S-1-5-21-1606980848-1532298954-1801674531-1001:1001: Thanks in advance Matthias -- Don't panic ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SF.Net email is Sponsored by MIX09, March 18-20, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
