If you installed from the sourceforge tarball you can set the location anywhere you want. However it is a very common problem with packaged (rpm/deb) installations that people try to move the storage location after installation and it doesn't work to simply change $TopDir once it is set. But, I didn't think that was your problem since you were at backup 150 before seeing a problem. There is still the possibility of a physical disk error.
