Hello,

for a small office with 2 PCs I would like to setup a samba and
backup-server (using backuppc).

I'm running BackupPC on three other servers (Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz).

Since I have an unused Pentium III running at 900 MHz and 512 MB RAM I
would like to know, if this small machine can be used as a BackupPC-Server.

Why: It is very quiet and has a nice form factor.

Any feedback?

Kind regards

- P hil

I think it should work without too much problems. I would put your samba
shares on a different disk than the backuppc pool and add RAM if you can.

There was a discussion some time ago about actual needs for backuppc and
some use pretty high end hardware (for a lot of clients) while others go the
other end. I think your main concern would be first different HD's for pool
& samba. If you backup after working hours, which happens automatically if
they are on all the time (like the servers) you might even put everything on
one disk.

Greetings,
Koen Linders
