Look at swap space usage on the backuppc server as well as your backuppc client. If you run out of ram on either side, you will see a massive slow down in performance. BTW, I have a mail server with the following stats: Files: approx 300,000 Size: 26GB New Files: 400M - 500M / day Time for a full backup is around 2 hours, backup is done over a 8M DSL link but --bwlimit=640 BTW, did you mean you have 370,000 files in a single directory, or you have at the top level two directories, and under those a number of sub-directories each with a number of files totalling 370,000 ? ie, 370,000 files in a single directory would be very in-efficient... depending on your FS of choice...
