My clients run a mix of Microsoft Security Essentials and Immunet with
ClamAV, and I'm running cwRsyncServer as rsyncd for use by BackupPC. I
realized that the rsyncd service is likely causing an AV scan with each
file access and that's a big performance hit on the client as it searches
the whole disk for file changes. I see that I can add rsyncd.exe as an
exception to the AV but doesn't that just prevent the scan when loading the
rsyncd.exe file? What's needed to make file accesses by that program immune
from scanning? (I expect that this answer will be different for every AV,
and it would be useful to know what other AVs do, as I might switch AV
products to facilitate this.)
