Have you tried running BackupPC_dump by hand?

As the backuppc user, on the linux command line, run: 
/usr/share/backuppc/bin/BackupPC_dump -f -v host.example.com

(substitute the name of the host as it appears in the BackupPC web interface
for host.example.com).
