I'm not sure what exactly changed, but I never had to mount C: on the older version I was using. At any rate, I used the generic rsyncd.conf file found in the BackupPC docs, which were using "c:/<path>", which is why I used it. So perhaps that needs updating as well when the updated rsync binaries are added in.
