Hi,
laptops are traveling through the world changing the (and often more than one)
ip address. I've setup scripts (for os x, w7) to collect these data and push it
into a db. Periodically, the /etc/hosts file on the backuppc server is updated
with these data.

Now, nmblookup doesn't use the /etc/hosts file, but $Conf{ClientNameAlias} =
'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' in the /etc/backuppc/CLIENTS.pl file which can be updated
periodically as well to the latest data.

Are there other/simpler possibilities already implemented for clients to be
able to backup from "foreign" networks? Is there any possibility to deal with
the multiple ip addresses a client can have?

tia, Thomas
