Well, On workgroup machines you are most likely correct, I haven't ever messed with it there since I manage a domain. But I do know for a fact that on domain servers it is started by default and startup type is automatic. (I checked on on of my servers before replying to his mail.) -----Original Message----- From: Michael Stowe <[email protected]> Reply-to: <[email protected]>, "General list for user discussion, questions and support" <[email protected]> To: "General list for user discussion, questions and support" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [BackupPC-users] Documentation. The service is invoked as needed, so it should not be set to "automatic" (it will just shut down) or "disabled" (which would just be ignorant and weird.) It may or may not be actually running depending on what other services are running at the time, and whether or not the machine is part of a domain. As you say, it's possible to break the service (with registry, installation errors, etc.) but it also has a debugging function that's useful in tracking down what's wrong with it. Of course, if you don't mess with it, it should just work, unless (as you say) your Windows installation is damaged. It's a frequent target for malware, for obvious reasons. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Want fast and easy access to all the code in your enterprise?
