I have checked /etc/backuppc/hosts file and that matches what I would expect to see - all the hosts except the one which was removed.
All hostnames are entered as DNS names and set as 0 for DHCP and with backuppc as the user. There is a hosts.old file there from around a month ago - same content barring the one removed host.
