It's 72,000 seconds - admittedly I haven't waited that long.

I did get things working however: If I move the contents of the 
directory for the machine in question out of the way, and let BackupPC 
start fresh with backup #0 again, the machine does back up correctly.

I'm assuming - hopefully correctly - I can rename the '0' directory to 
the proper number and manually put the entry in the 'backups' file and 
have everything be happy once again with all the history intact.
