What version of BackupPC and rsync are you running? If BackupPC is 3.x, rsync is 3.2.3 and your File::RsyncP is older than version 0.76 then this could be your issue: https://github.com/backuppc/backuppc/issues/369
The solution is to upgrade File::RsyncP to the latest version 0.76.
