Are you sure that you still want to use 'Lenny' for your backups? According to https://wiki.debian.org/DebianReleases Debian 5 End Of Life was over 13 years ago.

Yes, it is *possible*, but BackupPC works best when it is used to back up files which are treated as files by the system on which they live. Although a VM image may appear to be a file in your filesystem, it is treated by the VM as an image of a mass storage device.
