it should be possible, too, to just change the uid/gid
of the backuppc user in the new system's /etc/passwd and /etc/group
files.
Then the chown is just needed for the config files in e.g. /etc/backuppc. AFAIR I did it like this some time ago.

Since, for large volumes of the backuppc pool, the chown could take
some time. And it is not always a good idea to touch all the files in the pool.
