Question: I have to pass three options to BackupPC-ls. Hostname is easy. I believe Sharename is easy since I use rsync and that is just the directory name, although actually, I don't know for sure what directory I specified. Then there is backup number. I have no idea how to get this. I poked around some, but came up empty. Any suggestions?
If you look in the BackupPC data directory hierarchy (the place where the pool is stored, very often somewhere like /var/lib/BackupPC/) you will find a directory .../pc/ that contains a directory for each host that you're backing up. In each host directory there are directories whose names are entirely made up of digits. Those are backup numbers. You can tell when they were made from the timestamps. Each directory N should have a corresponding file XferLOG.N.z which is the BackupPC transfer log that was made while the backup was performed.
