If I during a restore operation specify a new restore path which does not exist,
Bacula aborts the restore operation because it can't find the path. If I
preallocate it using mkdir the restore operation continues safely past that 
point.

It would be much appreciated if Bacula would allocate the path instead of
aborting. It would be a minor change that would cause a major relief.

It is therefore my wish particularly because I normally use a path in /tmp which
disappears after a while (few days) if it has not been in used. It can't be that
difficult to implement.
