Just before seeing your mail, I belatedly updated those items. If you want to know when a new version is released, the best bet is either subscribe to the Source Forge notification for the package(s) that interest you, or subscribe to the bacula-announce email list. > > * Are there any future plans for official or "semi-official" RHEL rpms > (rpms-contrib-fschwarz is empty and no 3.0.1 was present, too IIRC)? I imagine that Felix will get around to building them. As was announced in my last status report (yesterday?) I am reviewing the whole question of rpms -- their layout, and which ones we build. I cannot promise anything but I believe that Bacula Systems will be hiring someone to produce binaries, and if that is the case, that person will also produce binaries for the project (or at least binaries for additional platforms -- e.g. the real RHEL5.3 binaries, ...). > > * Is the FD tray icon supposed to work in Windows Vista (at least > 32-bit)? It does not work because Microsoft has prohibited system programs from interacting with the desktop. The code is there and continues to function, but in Vista and other such "secure" systems, the tray icon does not display. > I've seen controversial statements: "the tray icon is missing > due to Vista peculiarities" and "someone made it work with older > binaries". Neither "The current state of Bacula" nor "New features" nor > "Supported operating systems" mention the tray icon at all and the > latter claims "full support" of Vista. Yes, we support Vista. Full support does not mean that we also produce a tray icon. It was a nice feature but not required. > I've got my first Vista a couple of days ago ;-) and I don't have any > tray icon there, so I cannot decide if it is a general bug, an issue > with my setup or a misdocumentation/known issue. It is a "development project" (or you can also call it a Microsoft bug if you want). It requires writing a separate tray icon program rather than the current code that is integrated into the FD, which requires some new interface to the FD. Given that the "Port bat to Win32" was voted #35 out of 40, this particular project won't be implemented in the near future, unless someone contributes the code for it. If anyone is interested in working on it, I will be happy to help them with the technical design.
