Does anything else automatically modify 'In Changer'? I believe mounting a tape does, but I was curious what else. I haven't seen that in the manual.

Hello,

Please always copy the list ...

You have in the attachement:

===========
*list media pool
Defined Pools:
    1: DVD-Diff
    2: Default
    3: Full
    4: Diff
    5: DVD
Select the Pool (1-5): 3
+---------+------------------+-----------+----------------+----------+--------------+---------+------+-----------+-----------+---------------------+
| mediaid | volumename | volstatus | volbytes | volfiles | volretention | recycle | slot | inchanger | mediatype | lastwritten |
+---------+------------------+-----------+----------------+----------+--------------+---------+------+-----------+-----------+---------------------+

So you see there are purged tapes to be used, but bacula will be waiting
for a tape that is not in the changer.
==========

Now if you mean that that tape should be used -- no probably not because the InChanger flag is not set, so Bacula does not think it is in the changer.

It just occurred to me in examining your longer list of volumes that this could happen when a Volume is marked in Error. It will have the InChanger flag removed (it probably should not if it is marked in Error), then later when the volume is Purged, it will not appear to Bacula that the Volume is in the changer.

Hello Angela,

First, a hint on getting help. Please read the support page on the
Bacula web site. It indicates the kind of information we need to help
you ...
You are absolutely right.

Second hint, it is not possible to answer your question without knowing
what version of Bacula you are using because the algorithms used in
1.36.x and 1.38.x are *totally* different. So, please tell us what
Bacula version you are using.
1.36.3-2 on Debian mostly Sarge. Mostly means that this bacula version ist
from sid.

Third hint, it would be really helpful to see the output from a job
that is blocked ...
it is not blocked now, but it will be blocked this evening...

Fourth hint, it would be even more helpful to see a "list volumes" so
we could verify that there are volumes available that are in the
changer (and marked so in the catalog).
In the attached files you will find it.

Fifth hint, I only give so many hints to people in Switzerland :-)
Oh, that must be because of the holes in the cheese, they probably infect
the heads... :-)

Thank you very much i.a.

PS: I find bacula is a great!!!! program and I'm very happy to have found
it! Thank you for this great work.

Angela

Hallo,

I'm using two sets of tapes alternatively which I change manually.

Now I have this situation:

I have totally 4 tapes in the differential pool.
Two are "inchanger" and two not.

From the two inchanger one is full and one is purged.

from the two which are actually not inchanger one is full and one has
status append.

I would expect that bacula takes the purged tape which is in the
changer but unfortunatly it is expecting the "append*-tape which is
not in the changer.
So the jobs queue and queue instead of beeing done, even if there is
a "free" tape in the changer.

How could I solve this?

Thanks i.a.

Angela
