Item 1: relabel volumes when moving them from the Scratch pool Origin: Dysmas - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: 28 October 2006 Status:
What: The documentation says (p.318): "Automatic labeling from templates does NOT work with autochangers since Bacula will not access unknown slots." Yes, sure, but precisely the Scratch pool is done for that. A wonderful idea, that Scratch pool, but it will not work in a practical way with autoloaders presently. My suggestion is : When a volume is taken from the scratch pool and moved to another pool, then, if this pool has a Label Format defined, the volume should be relabeled according to this format. Why: Just suppose the following situation : I have a 8 slots autoloader, and the last tape of six pools in it (one for each day from Monday to Saturday). I want that when a tape is full, the autoloader can take a new tape, so I have two other tapes defined for the Scratch pool, with nonsense names : xx1 and xx2. I cannot guess which tape will be chosen for which pool, since I don’t know which tape will first be full . Suppose the Friday-0002 tape is full, then the xx1 tape is moved to the Friday pool. But unfortunately it will keep its name, « xx1 », and a volume name cannot be changed later, unless it is purged. I will finish with a mess of nonsense names to my volumes, which is really not a good situation. Everything would be fine if the volume was renamed Friday-0003 according to the Label Format = "Friday-" Notes: Well, I know that this directive is deprecated, but since the Python script is not yet documented, I cannot know if it allows something like that. Also : since this part is already under work, it is probably not a good moment to work ourselves on it. But perhaps the persons who are now working on this part will find the idea interesting. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
