Well, IMO it is probably not anything they have done against Bacula on purpose
as you say, but it *is* their fault. I don't like their commercial ads, but
it doesn't bother me enough to complain. However, if they include deceptive
ads from commercial companies that use an Open Software cover with what seems
to me to be incorrect information, then I'm not happy.

to the PDFCreator project page, I am flooded with ads of commercial software
which does the exact same thing as PDFCreator does - and are probably not as
robust and mature. Same thing at the FreeMind project page, and several other
pages. SF just tags projects ('backup', 'PDF', 'mind mapper'), and displays
ads of commercial software in the same category. This is just their ad system
doing its job.

As I said, I don't particularly like that, but as long as the ads are not
misleading, I could live with it.

from how long I've been hearing about Amanda (I first heard of it in '97 our
'98, I think), I **suppose** the project is run by serious and civil
individuals who would never approve of such behaviour.

Well, from what I understand, Zmanda hired the main Amanda programmers at
least that is what their web site says. Judging by the little activity that
I have seen from the Amanda developers over the past 5 years, I would say
that it was an almost dead project until the venture capitalists decided to
invest and create Zmanda. The project does seem to have taken new life,
which is nice, providing Zmanda (Amanda) is really and remains Open Source.
After looking at some of the new features listed on the Zmanda web site, I
downloaded the most recent code and from a very quick look got the impression
that the current code does not contain all the features mentioned.

It is clear that the marketing are trying to promote their company, and it is
very common for company ads to exaggerate the facts. What I object to is
having Source Forge which lists only Open Software put those deceptive (IMO)
adds on the Bacula project page.

little about facts. Before deploying my Linux-based backup solution, I did
**A LOT** of research and Bacula won, hands down.

Thanks.

We will see. I have just received a preliminary response from the technical
staff that says they have forwarded my request for management review. That
is a positive step IMO.
