I updated my sd (on the server where the tape library is connected) from version 1.36.3-r2 (the version from Gentoo portage) to version 2.0.0, using the ebuild file provided by John and I included the "Autochanger" resource in the sd config file. The rest of the config files are the same. Now everything is working fine. Thanks John - all the credit is yours.
