Hello,
This is to let you know that I have released the Bacula source tar files and
the Win32 binaries for BETA 2.1.22 to Source Forge in the bacula-beta area.
This release represents a small, but important number of improvements over the
last Beta:
Changes since Beta release 2.1.20
- New graphs in bat
- Due to a typo, I had inadvertantly turned off batch insert mode.
It is now re-enabled
- Possible fix for bug #888 (dropped comm lines using TLS).
- Test version of Win32 binaries for Vista.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please Note !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Restore on Win32, and in particular on Vista is untested. Please
test before relying on it. It should backup and restore reparse
points.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would appreciate testing this release. Please note that for several beta
releases the SQL batch insert code was inadvertantly turned off, and it is
turned on in this version. This should give some nice performance
improvements.
Also, if all goes well this version of Win32 will correctly handle Vista VSS
(volume shadow copy) and reparse points (also known as junctions or mount
points). I haven't tested restoring reparse points, so your feedback would
be very much appreciate. Please take care with the reparse points because if
the implementation is not correct, the restore could essentially follow the
link and restore the data to the target, which would not be correct. I don't
expect this to happy, but who knows. Also, if anyone has an older machine
Win2K, WinNT, WinMe, Win98 there is a good chance that the new Microsoft
reparse code will not be downward compatible (I believe Microsoft does so on
purpose to encourage upgrades). The old "non-portable" option *should* work
on those machines.
Best regards,
Kern
PS: Aside from testing, there remain two issues that I am working on before
the production release of 2.2.0:
1. Considering a bit more agressive pruning in the Scratch pool to ensure that
Scratch pool volumes in autochangers will get recycled in priority.
2. Considering modifying the Storage daemon locking code to remove a number of
"conflicts" -- i.e. create a finer grain locking (more locks) so that
there will be less blocking of the jobs.
PPS: If you are building with bat enabled, when you do the ./configure, it
will download a third party (qwt - graphics) library and compile it during
the ./configure. This is a bit unusual, but it only needs to be done once, so
for the moment that is how it works.
