It's definitely possible, I've configured something like it for a client where both servers have their own tapedrive but only one runs a director.I have remote servers set up in a "single server" configuration, meaning each server runs the director, sd, and fd. The remote servers have their own removable drives to store the backups. The servers only have slow connections to our central sites. Is it possible to configure a central director, and still have the clients do their backups to storage that's local to them? My goal is to manage many remote clients from a central point.
All you need to do is to have one server with bacula-dir (the central management server), and all other servers with bacula-sd and bacula-fd. Then just define all the different Storage devices in your bacula-dir and make sure each client uses the right one.
If setup correctly you'll only have metadata flowing towards the director, and all data itself will stay local between the sd and fd on the other servers.
