This will depend on your needs. There are a few possibilities that could
lead you to recover your database dump:

1) total disaster recovery: in this case, you will need the most recent
backup of your catalog.
2) reverting your catalog to a specific point in time: in this case, you
will need the backup of exactly the point in time you want to be back to.
3) recovery of purged jobs, volumes or files: you will need to find out the
most recent catalog backup with the data you want for jobs, volumes or
files.

These are just a few cases that could led you to a catalog recovery. You
can find out a lot of other situations, but IMHO the first two are the most
common.
