Dear David,
I've never seen any accounts that report the Bab was killed by the
first volley. However, if He had been there wouldn't be a second
volley to report. I'm guessing that there might have been reports that
only mentioned that the Bab was executed without mentioning what
happened at the first volley.
What I have seen are reports that Anis was killed with the first
volley. Most of the Muslim accounts insist that the Bab was so shaken
that He ran back to the barracks where they found Him and completed
the execution.
