It could be genuine: Einstein did some writing and delivered talks on the subject of religion and miracles, but these would have been in English, not German (1930's). However his thinking on miracles was based on infinite probabilities and the limitations of our knowledge, whereas this quote is subjectivism. The quote is a very popular one on American "miracle" sites, think- yourself-rich schemes and that sort of thing, but it is never sourced. It comes in various variants: "there are two ways to see life..." or "there are only two ways to live your life ...". I doubt it is genuine. The thought (especially with the inserted "only") is too simplistic, and it too much at home where it is found -- in the American think-yourself-rich / power-of-the-mind milieu. Another possibility is that it really is from German -- from Carl Einstein who wrote a novel called "Bebuquin oder die Dilettanten des Wunders" (1912). Perhaps something has been picked up there. Two popular (and genuine) quotes from Carl Einstein are "Das Wunder ist eine Frage des Trainings." and "Man muss das Unmögliche so lange anschauen, bis es eine leichte Angelegenheit ist." - both from Die Dilettanten des Wunders, chapter 6. Perhaps something from Carl was picked up, attributed to Albert, and took on a new life in the American 'mindfulness' literature. The first of these sounds like a slogan for the "Course in Miracles" people -- if they haven't used it, they should :-) Sen The information contained in this e-mail and any attachments thereto ("e-mail") is sent by the Johnson County Community College ("JCCC") and is intended to be confidential and for the use of only the individual or entity named above.
