It is not abnormal for a small corporation to issue employees stock in-
lieu of regular wages.  I have worked for a company that did this and
the reason for it was the executives were very sure of the success of
the company and wanted to offer its employees a way to share in the
increased value of the company when that happened.  This was a normal
way of doing business for some of the most successful .coms in the
1990's and it made a lot of employees very wealthy.
