Bakken Oil Formation Also Producing Rich Natural Gas

10/28/2008

A company wants to build a new natural gas pipeline in northwestern
North Dakota. It would feed North Dakota natural gas into the huge
Alliance gas pipeline for the first time.

The Alliance line runs from western Canada through North Dakota on its
way to the Chicago area.

North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources director Lynn Helms says
the proposed pipeline would run from Glenburn southwest to Stanley.
Helms says the Bakken oil producing rock formation is also producing
natural gas. It`s called rich gas because it`s not just methane. It
also has liquids used to make propane, butane and other fuels.

Helms says the pipeline would take Bakken gas to the Alliance
pipeline. It could ship up to 400-thousand dollars worth of natural
gas each day for processing.
