I think what "open Choke" is refering to is the discovery of
new oil fields in the Madison and Lodgepole and other formations
while drilling Bakken wells.

Most current Madison production in the central basin area has
been discovered by drilling seismic highs on known structures.
Since most Bakken wells are drilled without regard to seismic
control, it is very possible some of these wells will find
Madison fields that are stratigraphic traps. In fact, one
company told me they have had a couple of good looking Madison
shows in their current Bakken program. Of course, they did not
stop to test the Madison since it wasn't their primary objective.
Most of the worlds largest oil fields are stratigraphic traps. The
central Williston Basin is too deep to justify random drilling
looking for these traps...the Bakken interest could well lead
us to some good conventional (veritcal well) development.

Bakken tests also go through the Lodgepole formation which has
proved to very prolific just outside of Dickinson. Bakken tests
could "stumble into" several more of these "reef fields" in various
parts of the Williston Basin.

Every well that is drilled is always looking for potential reservoirs
on its way to the target formation. So far, the Tyler, Charles,
Ratcliffe, Midale, Rival, Bluell, Fryberg, and Lodgepole have all
proved to be productive in North Dakota. Since these lie above
the Bakken, every Bakken well gets a good look at all these and
more.
We'll have to wait and see if Open Choke is correct in his prediction
of an..."explosion of conventional 5 million barrel fields". I'm
confident there will some very nice discoveries.
