The Ray Bakken Field is about 3 miles north of Ray in Williams County.
It was discovered by Evertson Oil & Gas. The tri-lateral horizontal
well was a very modest success at best. I have heard problems
were encountered when drilling this well so it might not represent the
true potential of the Bakken formation in the Ray area.

Evertson has permited an east "off-set" to the discovery but this
well has not yet been drilled. Also, it is not designated as a
horizontal
test so it might be scheduled as a vertical test of the Red River or
other deeper zones. Whiting has had Red River gas well success just
a few miles southeast of the Ray Field. There is also a very weak
short-horizontal Bakken well in the New Home Field a few miles to
the north of Ray.

Finally, about 10 miles northeast of Ray, Pogo Production spent a ton
of money on their Pegasus dual laterial well in the South Meadow
Field.
It too has had uneconomic results but all three of the above wells
continue to produce some Bakken oil. Perhaps the latest drilling and
completion techiques can open this area to commercial production.
