a gtk2 branch has been branched off master for any bug-fix releases in Balsa's 2.24 series, and support for Gtk+-3.0 has been merged from the gtk3 branch into master. Future development will take place in master, and you should build that tree to get the latest and greatest version of Balsa!
Checked it out, and it build & runs perfectly (on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS). Good work!
If you find any bugs that might have crept in during the merge (which was partly manual), please file them!
Well, as Jack did already mention, the web page might need some "polish"... And the gtk3/master version has *many* untranslated German messages, but I hope the translation team will take care of that, now that this is "officially" master! Thanks again for your great work, Albrecht.
